How to Audit Core Tools in the Aerospace Industry

This course is a comprehensive three-day workshop designed for aerospace auditors seeking deeper competency in auditing the six core tools within the 9100 scheme. This course focuses specifically on how to audit—rather than create—APQP/PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and SPC, helping participants evaluate effectiveness, identify common industry pitfalls, and follow audit trails across interconnected tools. Through practical examples, case studies, and interactive group activities, attendees strengthen their technical confidence and advance beyond basic conformance auditing to more strategic, value-driven assessments.

Course Description

Core tools are a key component of the 9100 scheme; auditing them is a core competency required for all auditor in the aerospace industry. Whether you are a lead auditor, an internal auditor for your facility, or a supplier auditor responsible for assessing companies in your supply chain, effectively auditing the core tools associated with organizations is key to being a good auditor. This discussion of competency frequently comes with questions…. Questions like:

  • What is competency? How do I know I am technically competent?
  • How I improve my competency around auditing core tools without digging down to the level of a practitioner
  • How can I supplement my knowledge to focus on the more in-depth auditing practices around core tools?

This course answers these questions for individuals who have existing 9100 knowledge and are actively auditing within their organizations. This course is 3 days of audit-focused activity around the six core tools in the aerospace industry, with the depth of each tool entered around what you need to know to audit. Within this course, we have each tool covered with topics like:

  • Fundamentals of the tool- What do you need to know about it to audit.
  • Examples and bulleted lists of traits for “good” and “bad” examples of tools, so you know what to look for.
  • Case studies around the connections between tools so that you can follow the flow of tools in order of depth
  • Interactive group work to allow you to bounce ideas and experience off other auditors that have different experiences than you

In short, this course answers the question of “what’s next” in your auditing career by focusing not on the practice of creating the tools but instead on the auditing of the core tools.

Certification

Participation in group activities during the class and attendance throughout the duration of the course allows the participant to collect a Plexus International Certificate of Completion.
