Course Description

This 2-days course recertifies participants that have successfully completed the AIAG IATF 16949:2016 Lead Auditor Training with AIAG Supplier Auditor Certification for another 3-year period. The course uses a hands-on approach on how to use the automotive process approach outlined in the Rules for Achieving and Maintaining IATF Recognition 6th edition to improve the robustness of your audit skills and internal/supplier audit program. It also assists IATF 16949 practitioners to stay current and up to date with changes in the practice of auditing. The main objectives of:

  • Applying audit skills according to the latest IATF requirements regarding the audit process and auditor competence
  • Connecting the dots between typical internal audit program activities and requirements from Rules for Achieving and Maintaining IATF Recognition 6th Edition and how these later impacts your auditor program
  • Understanding updates to the automotive scheme to make sure you have the latest information to aid in your external and internal audits
  • Preparing for the Lead Auditor and Supplier Auditor recertification exam, which will provide a renew for the next 3 years on your certification (a new certificate will be released upon successful completion of the recertification exam)

This course is designed for those that already have successfully completed either an AIAG Lead and/or Supplier Auditor course and assumes a familiarization with both the IATF standard and a basic level of auditing process knowledge.

Learning Objectives

  • Awareness of the 3rd party certification requirements (achieving and maintaining) according to IATF Rules 6th edition and ISO/IEC 17021-1.
  • Understand IATF Rules 6th edition requirements that can be used, in conjunction with ISO 19011 guidelines, to improve your internal audit program and your supplier audit program.
  • Apply the automotive process approach for planning QMS audits.
  • Apply the automotive process approach for conducting QMS audits at all organizational levels: top management, process owners, and personnel working in operations and supporting processes.
  • Evaluate the effective implementation of ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016 requirements.
  • Evaluate the effective implementation of the automotive core tools and customer-specific requirements.
  • Describe audit findings and audit results.
  • Evaluate the acceptability and effectiveness of corrective actions to address QMS nonconformities.
  • Apply interviewing techniques and communication skills during an audit simulation.

Two elements are involved in the successful completion of this course:

  1. The continual evaluation of the student's attitudes, auditing capability, performance as team members when role playing, and communication skills (performed independently by all instructors involved with the class).
  2. A written examination that covers the content of IATF 16949:2016 and the application of audit principles and practices based on IATF 16949:2016.

Individuals that have taken the AIAG Lead Auditor or Supplier Auditor Certification courses and are looking for auditor recertification following the expiration of their 3-year certificate.

Day 1

  • Overview of the certification process according to ISO/IEC 17021-1 and IATF 16949 Rules 6th edition
  • Developing and updating the QMS audit program
  • Three pillars for audit planning: risk to the customer, performance trends, and criticality of the processes
  • Developing audit plans
  • Preparing for an individual audit
  • Basic Understanding of the Automotive Process Approach: agility, understanding the current QMS, customer risk and performance orientation, PDCA cycles, and automotive process approach
  • Conducting the audit at the Top Management level
  • Conducting the audit with Process Owners


Day 2

  • Conducting audit trails in operations and supporting processes
  • Reporting audit findings and results
  • Evaluating the acceptability of corrective actions
  • Audit simulation exercise
  • Lead Auditor and Supplier Auditor exam structure and practice exercises

Certificate

Earn two certificates upon successful appraisal

  • An AIAG IATF 16949:2016 Lead Auditor Training certificate
  • An AIAG IATF 16949:2016 Supplier Auditor Certification certificate for first and second-party assessments.
  • Both certificates are valid for 3 years
